This was Earth Hour 2017!

Find out what our goals were.

As we enter 2017, a year that has started out with political and environmental concerns that affects all of us, Earth Hour continues to ‘Shine a Light on Climate Action’ to highlight the importance and urgency for individuals to take climate action now
Celebrating its eleventh signature lights out event in 2017, the movement’s enduring appeal stands testament to our collective ambition to #ChangeClimateChange. WWF-Cambodia aims to make it bigger and more impactful!

Since 2007, WWF’s Earth Hour has been the force behind numerous environmental outcomes including helping to drive legislative changes, promoting individual actions to protect forests, oceans and wildlife, encouraging sustainable behavior and lifestyles, and helping spark global awareness and momentum on climate.

This year WWF Cambodia is focusing on you! Yes, you. We know the power each person has, this movement started as a way to develop initiative and responsibility towards the environment, the time has come now to act upon it. Our planet can only produce a finite number of resources – from food, to water, electricity or wood – when you make choices that are sustainable, you become responsible for your own consumption practices.

WWF-Cambodia’s’ theme this year is to shine a light on Sustainable Resource Use.

The campaign is aiming for bring to everybody’s attention the impacts their choices make and how far reaching they can be. We only have one Earth and are utterly dependent on it for our survival and well-being. But both people and nature are facing severe consequences if our current consumption increases. The biggest driver of environmental degradation is the fact that we’re consuming resources at an unsustainable rate, and therefore our production of goods is increasing. But as the world’s resources are coming under increasing pressure, so the constraints to growth are becoming increasingly visible.

We’re throwing light on issues such as deforestation, loss of habitat and wildlife, but this time its to move further into actions. Actions that you can take every day to save the environment by changing your choices. #MyChoices can change the world.

We welcome you to join our event, which will take place on Saturday, the 25th of March at the Wat Botum Park. We have arranged for a host of interesting activities with our brand ambassador. Engage in our social media contests, our sustainable products exhibitions and enjoy our music events.

We need you!

We need to find ways to sustain our planet and use its resources more responsibly – in a way that doesn’t degrade the environment - for the benefit of ourselves and future generations.

The solution is multi-faceted and complex, change starts at home, change begins with you and your choices. For example: every single time you choose rattan over wood, you save a tree and all the life forms related to it. If each person made this choice, you could save entire forests. Or if you choose to reduce-reuse-recycle, you will end up saving money for yourself as well as preventing thousands of kilograms of plastic ending up at landfills.
