PRESS RELEASE - USE YOUR POWER TO PROTECT THE PLANET WITH EARTH HOUR

WHAT WE DO IN 2014?

This year in Cambodia, Earth Hour will be celebrated with youth-led, youth-oriented events built from the ground-up and community-based. Led by the Fullbright and Undergraduate State Alumni Association of Cambodia (FUSAAC), the main event is open to public and calls on youths to participate and show their commitment to protect the planet. Apart from the symbolic one-hour lights out event, edutainment activities will see participants having fun while sharing their concerns about the environment and reflecting on how they use their power to take small but meaningful actions for Cambodia's environment and the planet Earth.

Our Messages

CHOOSE GREENER TRANSPORT
CO2 emission is a major cause of global warming and climate change. Why not try to be environmentally friendly by taking the new public bus to commute and instead of riding your motorbike or driving your car, talk a walk or ride bicycle when the distance is short.

CHOOSE REUSABLE BAGS
Plastic bags thrown away on the streets often block the drains in Phnom Penh. Plastic does not break down easily and will harm the environment. In the rainy season, it makes the flooding in Phnom Penh worse as the drains cannot flow. Time to refuse plastic bags abd help reduce plastic waste in Cambodia. Choose cloth bags, baskets or other bags that are reusable!

DO YOU REALLY NEED TO HAVE AIR-CONDITIONER ON?
What will you do to save your planet and save your money? Electricity comes at a cost to your pockets, and to the environment. Here's one way you can save energy: Do you really need to have air-conditioner on? Open the windows & use the fan more often. Air-conditioners are dry for your skin & is less healthy than fresh air!

TURN OFF THE LIGHTS WHEN YOU DON'T NEED THEM!
Another way to save energy is: turn off the lights when you don't need them. For example, when you go to sleep, leave the room or leave the house.

SAVE ENGERY, SAVE MONEY, SAVE THE PLANET!
Do you have WIFI at home? When no one is using the WIFI, turn it off! For example, when you go to sleep or when you leave the house.

TURN OFF YOUR LAPTOP!

Turn off your laptop, turn off your wireless modem, when you don't use them, when you leave your house, when you go to sleep!

SAVE WATER
Shorten your shower! Don't leave the water tap run when you don't need them.
